    been in a push wheelchair with cerebral palsy for 14 years and I'm 17 years old. I can get down 1-2 stairs and I've been trying to get the skill of going up kerbs and steps and have never quite been able to do so without grabbing something and pulling myself up there or with someones help. but this video looks like it'll help.

    I use a Jay Balance, which is also a hybrid like Elite. Couldn't be happier. Got it in 2018 and actually this year was first time I had a puncture which I solved with a patch and some liquid PVC/rubber. Well build and like you said, probably the best, the results from BodiTrak were better than honeycomb and gel. If I will get another, will probably be the same type.

    I’m an architect in training and I’ve designed many doorway plans that provide ADA door maneuvering clearance dimensions. I never really understood exactly how someone in a wheelchair actually used these clearances to pull or pull a swing door open so, decided to search UA-cam as I’m studying for my registration exams to be a licensed architect and I’m so happy I found your video. I’ll be watching more to fully understand the purpose of all ADA standards ✌🏼

    Hi! May we please get an update on your long term experience with the pump? How many years did it last, did you get a new one put in, did you have to keep upping your dosage, etc. Thank you for the videos!

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving Місяць тому

      Hey! It’s still been great long term. I had my initial pump replaced in 2017 and again in October 2023 since the battery lifespan is about 7 years. My initial dose was actually double what I’m on now (1400 mcg) but much of my spasticity was caused by an underlying spinal issue that I had corrected in 2012 and after that time, I was able to lower the dose. I’ve toyed with adjusting it even lower but the tightness/spasms always return in full force so I found my sweet spot is around 650 mcg. I still have some spasms at this dose but they aren’t inhibiting.

    Great info thks l am T5 complete but have a lot of strong spasms. I also dress on the bed as its way less effort than in the chair. I pull pants over both feet and ease the up all the way to over my knees, then lie back diwn and roll side to side, pulling up the back and sides. Also do shoes on the bed, then onto the chair. I will watch your channel as rehab where l live had no clue about how a T5 ability differs from a T12

    Hi, thx for your great video. What is the reason you lift the front wheels when going down the curb? And also, i have small wheels at the back to prevent falling on the back of your head.. don't these form an issue when going down a curb? And last question, bumps are very painful for me, is there a way to go up slower? Thanks in advance!

    • @ParalyzedLiving
      @ParalyzedLiving 3 місяці тому

      Hi! I lift the front wheels going down the curb because it’s important that your rear wheels land first. If the front wheels touch down first, it makes the chair seat tip forward which could dump you on the ground. Your anti-tip bars would definitely make it hard to navigate curbs. They can be flipped temporarily so they are pointing up which gives enough clearance. They are mostly for new wheelchair users and they can be removed altogether once you get comfortable finding your center of gravity/tipping point. I had them in the beginning but most people take them off after some time. Unfortunately, you really need to get speed/momentum to go up curbs unless you have someone with you. In that case, you can pop your front wheels up on the curb and have someone lift the rear with the push handles which is a much smoother transition.

    Hey Brian I have the same level injury as you have. And mine is also from a motorcycle accident. But my accident was in 1975, almost fifty years and still wheeling. I am still very active and enjoy your video's. I played alot of wheelchair basketball and wheelchair bowling competively. I have one suggestion for you take care of your body as best you can, as it will wear out on you over time. It stands to reason that using your arms in place of your legs over time will wear them out. Also watch your ankles during transfers as they will break open if you don't watch them. I live in a neighboring state and admire your abilities to adapt things to make them easier. The first chair I got in 1975 weighed fifty pounds and the cushion they got me weighed another 10 lbs, look how times have changed. Good luck and keep on keepin on.
